Why Freelance Writers should use BlueHost?
BlueHost December 10th, 2007As a freelance writer, you definitely need to have a website that displays everything from contact information to a bio to samples. While this may sound foreign to you, as it did to me early on, it is not nearly as bad as you may think. If you are having a hard time deciding on a hosting company, let me make the decision for you: work with BlueHost.
I have worked with no less than five hosting companies over the years, and BlueHost blows them all away; at least from my perspective. There are several reasons that I feel this way.
1. I find it hard to believe that there is a better customer service team than BlueHost. Not only are they available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but they always answer your questions accurately and efficiently. I have found their live chat feature to be helpful no matter what time of the day it is. A few weekends back I had an issue with a problem that I caused on my own, and despite the fact that it was Sunday I was walked through the solution step by step.
The bottom line is that freelance writers do not always have good technical skills. When you can rely on a customer service rep to help you through the rough times, it makes life much easier.
2. You can host an unlimited number of domains with a BlueHost account. A few years ago this may not have been a big deal to me, but it is a huge selling point now. I currently have several blogs and websites, and am always adding to this list. With the ability to host unlimited domains, I never have to worry about any problems in this area.
3. Price! What more can I say? Even if you have a lot of money, you don’t want to spend more than you have to on web hosting. With BlueHost you can take advantage of a large list of features for $6.95/month. You may be able to find something for a few dollars cheaper, but it is safe to say that the features will not stack up.
If you are in the market for web hosting, or need to make a change because your current service is not up to par, give BlueHost a try. You will definitely be glad with this decision in the end!

IMO (as a long time reader) it is better if you just put a button to BlueHost on the blog, instead of making posts about them every 3 months or so. The content of the promotional posts doesn’t change much - compare this post with the one from 1st of August - and you’ll see it has basically the same points (price, customer service, 24/7 chat feature, etc).
My conclusion
#1: the excellent content of ChrisBlogging shouldn’t be interrupted by bluehost posts.
#2: at least mention there are aff. links, that is, if there are any.
Keep up the good work.
PS - sorry if the comment sounds too rude, just my opinion…

Ryan - Not rude at all, just your opinion. I get emails every week about choosing a hosting company, so I wrote another post on it; Ill probably do so again in a few months just to keep it fresh!
To me, and those that email me about hosting, these posts are just as helpful as the others.

Chris,
Did you start out with BlueHost or did you transfer to them later. I am considering moving all of my websites to a new host but I have no technical skills, so I’m nervous about losing all of my information!

Deborah - I started this blog with BlueHost; the others I transferred. If you are worried about losing info, get in touch with the BlueHost support team before starting. I am sure they will be able to give you some guidance! It is always nice to have most of your sites hosted by the same company.

Hi Chris,
I’ve been using Bluehost for a long time and I second your recommendation.
But why I dropped in is to tell you that the bluehost link isn’t working for me. Firefox says “I don’t know how to open this sorta link”, IE says “Seems like you need a special program installed to open this… Fatality!” or something like that
Guess it’s the “tp:” in front of the link.
Anyway I just though I’d let you know.
Great blog
Cheers

Are we talking about the same Bluehost that I had three accounts on for two years?
