Did you work over the Holiday Weekend?
As you know, last Thursday was Thanksgiving here in the United States. Although the holidays are a time for family and relaxation, I am sure that many of you could not stay away from your work. I am interested in knowing how many of you guys and gals worked over the holiday weekend. On top of this, how much time did you spend at your computer?
In the near future I want to create a series of posts focusing on the flexibility and freedom of being a freelance writer. Along with this, I also want to include information on how working for yourself can be a detriment during the holiday season.
Any information you can provide would be great. You can leave a comment for all of us to read, or send me an email if you are more comfortable doing so. Thanks in advance for the information!

I spent a LOT of time at the computer: thinking about work, fretting about work, and yet getting very little work done. Now, all of this is work of the non-paying variety (blog, etc.), but I still accomplished very little. The rest of the time I fretted about FINDING work, of the paying variety. While I told myself it’s “okay to relax,” that didn’t help. So to recap: I didn’t work and I didn’t relax. All in all, a total bust.

Yes, it seems true that the self-employed never get a day off. We visited family for the holiday, and I took my laptop but couldn’t get internet access at the house where we stayed. One of my sons asked me not to work on Thanksgiving, so I refrained from actually working on any articles that day. On Friday, I wrote a little bit – maybe an hour. On Saturday, I went to Panera Bread and spent about 2 1/2 hours writing and submitting articles to a client. I also wrote in the car during our driving time – maybe two hours total. So I didn’t work as much as I usually do, but I did work some.
I can’t envision not working at all over a long holiday weekend because that just means I’ll have more work to do the next week, which will be stressful and hard on my whole family. May as well keep doing a little at a time, right?
