Chris,

This is what I am dealing with right now. I recently listened to a teleseminar recently that discussed the need to raise prices given the current state of the economy. I have raised my rates for my new clients, but will be sending periodic notifications to my current clients letting them know their rates will go up at the end of the year. And you are right -- you have to be mindful of how much you increase your rates all at once. Great post!

Thanks for your advice. It's vitaly important to keep everything organized, though it can be tough for me as for any creative person. I will never manage to organize everything myself without the tool that I use - Wrike. It helps me keep all the important email threads neatly turned into to-do lists. Very helpful as I don't need to spend presious minutes or even hours on searching the right thing.

I agree with Zac, however sometimes being friendly is all you need to be. Friendly, but firm so that you still get your rewards for your hardwork!

Well, Chris, it's not a surprise to see you going strong after a year. I think your secret is your accessibility and your genuineness. The virtual marketplace is full of claims of expertise and performance, but you just chug along with your honest voice and answer your critics (of whch there seem to be very few)with a monthly take of 5K. You walk the walk--way to go!

Since this is a service blog, you might get a little more detailed when you discuss what it actually takes to enjoy that 5K (and larger) payday. I take it for granted that you are writing quite a bit to achieve that goal, and during your Get a Freelancer period were churning out material almost nonstop.

I think it's important that readers understand the effort that goes into numbers like that, and what a "project" entails, without, of course, specific clients being mentioned.

I'd also be interested on your current opinion of Helium and Associated Content, the latter of which I've contributed to but seems to be getting very stingy.

Congratulations again. Keep inspiring us with your success.
