This is what I am dealing with right now. I recently listened to a teleseminar recently that discussed the need to raise prices given the current state of the economy. I have raised my rates for my new clients, but will be sending periodic notifications to my current clients letting them know their rates will go up at the end of the year. And you are right — you have to be mindful of how much you increase your rates all at once. Great post!

Since this is a service blog, you might get a little more detailed when you discuss what it actually takes to enjoy that 5K (and larger) payday. I take it for granted that you are writing quite a bit to achieve that goal, and during your Get a Freelancer period were churning out material almost nonstop.

I think it’s important that readers understand the effort that goes into numbers like that, and what a “project” entails, without, of course, specific clients being mentioned.

I’d also be interested on your current opinion of Helium and Associated Content, the latter of which I’ve contributed to but seems to be getting very stingy.
